Most POS interfaces use a Lookup code for cross-referencing sales mix data. It is called PLU (Price Look Up) code. Depending on the POS interface your system is using, the information in this field may vary. You may have to consult the user manuals that came with your POS system for further instruction in this matter.
Many POS interfaces use a ”r;wizard” to guide you through the cross-referencing process. If such a wizard is available, you can access it by clicking the Wizard icon at the right of the Lookup Code field. If no wizard icon is visible, there is no wizard available for the interface and the PLU code must be entered into the field below the appropriate POS Interface name.
Following the proper format of the Lookup Code is essential in having the POS interface import its sales data for a product into FOOD-TRAK. FOOD-TRAK provides a formatting sample below the Lookup Code field called the Input Mask.
The Input Mask determines what characters are allowed at each data entry position and contains literals that are displayed as a part of the text. When entering a Lookup Code, the cursor does not stop at literal positions, but skips over them to the next data entry position. For example, if a hyphen is a literal position within a Lookup Code, you will not have to type in the hyphen when you enter the Lookup Code; it will be entered automatically. The Input Mask also determines the maximum length of the data string that can be entered into the field.
Currently FOOD-TRAK supports 5 Lookup Code formats:
0 Digits: 0 to 9 only, entry is required and + and - signs are not allowed.
Character |
Description |
0 (zero) |
Requires entry of digits only 0-9, + and - signs are not allowed. |
9 |
Entry of a digit or a space, + and - signs are not allowed. |
L |
Entry of alphabetical characters only (A-Z) required. |
A |
Entry of a alphanumeric characters (A-Z or 0-9). |
C |
Any character or a space. |
The Input Mask therefore provides the type of Lookup Code to enter and the number of characters required in that code. For example, the Input Mask 99-99999999 is made up of 9s, which indicates that entry of a digit or space is acceptable and that it the third character (the hyphen) is a literal. Enter the product Lookup Code by typing in the numbers and/or spaces. There is not need to type the hyphen.
